Artist's Comments
In 1048, a number of Byzantine ships landed soldiers in Malta, they destroyed everything, and carried off whatever they could find, the Arabs promised the Maltese a lot of freedom and the liberation of slaves if they helped to send away the Byzantines. The Maltese agreed, Arabs and Maltese fought like one, and the Greeks left Malta the Arabs kept their promise, freed the slaves and were more lenient towards the Maltese, but the difference in Religion still kept the Islanders unhappy.
